This guide is for anyone who needs a place to watch a game in San Diego, whether that is an early NFL kickoff, a Padres road game or a fight night. We sorted 20 bars by what they are actually good at: huge screens, a neighborhood feel, a nicer room, or food worth ordering. Every bar here appeared in a 2026 roundup or showed current activity on its own site, and the details come from the bars' own pages and local guides, not guesswork.

1. Big-screen bars that show everything
Novo Brazil Mission Valley (1640 Camino Del Rio North, inside Westfield Mission Valley) is the biggest screen setup on this list: more than 100 feet of LED video walls, an 8,000-square-foot dining room with 352 seats and a 3,500-square-foot patio with fire pits, games and a playground. It has 60 taps and free parking, and it showed every match of the 2026 World Cup. The drawback: its posted weekend hours start at 11:30 a.m., so confirm before planning a 10 a.m. NFL kickoff there. The Bullpen (8199 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Kearny Mesa) is the other screen-heavy option, with more than 60 flat screens plus an HD projection screen and bar food at reasonable prices. San Diego Magazine notes the hooting and hollering on Padres nights, which is the appeal and the drawback.
barleymash (600 Fifth Ave., Gaslamp) is a big, busy sports bar with a full menu, known for loaded fries and several kinds of loaded mac and cheese. It runs Padres postseason drink specials. The drawback is that it doubles as a Gaslamp nightlife spot with a posted dress code, so late evenings feel more like a club than a game room. In North County, Rookies Sports Bar (2216 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside) bills itself as the ultimate sports bar in North County, with more than 50 HD TVs, 3 projector screens, pizza and wings. It is a strip-center sports bar, so do not expect views.
2. Near Petco Park for pregame
Bub's at the Ballpark (715 J St.) is a Padres staple a block from the ballpark, with more than 40 TVs, a giant circle bar, 32 taps, an indoor basketball hoop and a patio. It is known for its tater tots and grilled wings and shows Padres away games. It opens at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays and 10 a.m. on Saturdays. The drawback is the crush before home games, when it fills with ticket holders. Tom's Watch Bar (815 J St., Suite 101) looks over Petco Park and wraps the room in stadium-size screens. It takes reservations, opens at 9 a.m. on weekends, and hosts UFC watch parties. On weekdays it does not open until 4 p.m., so it is no help for a weekday afternoon game.
Nason's Beer Hall (570 J St., inside the Pendry San Diego) is the most upscale pick near the park: a modern beer hall with 24 taps, game-day comfort food and weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It streams football and other big events and takes reservations on OpenTable. Weekday hours start at 3 p.m., and the hotel setting means hotel prices. If you are heading to the game, read Getting to Petco Park without driving and What Petco Park parking really costs before you leave home.
3. Neighborhood bars that are good for a game
Time Out Sports Tavern (634 Broadway, downtown) is a few blocks from the Gaslamp crowds but feels like a neighborhood bar, with 3 pool tables, a 12-foot projection screen, 28 taps and a late-night menu. It is small, so a big game fills it fast. Harbor Town Pub (1125 Rosecrans St., Point Loma) has been open since 2011 and shows NFL, Padres and World Cup games on its screens. It serves half-pound burgers, wings and fish and chips, has a full arcade with pinball and 16 taps of mostly San Diego beer, and opens at 8 a.m. on weekends for breakfast. It is walk-in only, which is good for drop-ins and bad if you want to hold a table for a group.
McGregor's (10475 San Diego Mission Rd., Mission Valley) is an Irish-style pub near Snapdragon Stadium with pool tables, darts, shuffleboard and weekly live music. It is 21 and over, so no kids. Fairplay (4026 30th St., North Park) is a gastropub that draws a soccer and football crowd. It posts a weekly TV guide on Instagram, so check there to make sure your game is on before you go.
The Hills Pub (8758 La Mesa Blvd., La Mesa Village) shows Padres and San Diego FC games, has a dog-friendly patio and keeps the kitchen open until midnight every day. It opens at 8 a.m. on weekends. 3N1 Sports Bar & Grill (2330 Proctor Valley Rd., Eastlake in Chula Vista) combines a sports bar, restaurant and cigar lounge, and San Diego Magazine notes it regularly hosts boxing and UFC pay-per-view events. The cigar lounge is 21 and over. Fight nights at 3N1 and other bars may come with a cover charge, so ask when you call.
4. Upscale or with a view
San Diego does not have many true sports lounges with soft seating and cocktail lists. Nason's Beer Hall and Tom's Watch Bar, both near Petco and both covered above, are the most polished rooms. For a view, Wonderland Ocean Pub (5083 Santa Monica Ave., Ocean Beach) sits upstairs over the sand with sports screens and the ocean sharing the room. It takes reservations, has a kids menu and runs weekday happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. with $5 drafts. The drawback is that sunset seats go first, and the window crowd is not always there for the game.
5. Bars where the food is the point
Dirty Birds is a local wing chain with more than 37 sauces, ranked #10 Best Wings in America by Yahoo Sports and The Daily Meal. The Liberty Station location (2970 Truxtun Rd., Suite 9) has 34 HDTVs, 24 taps, a dog-friendly patio on the golf course and opens at 9:30 a.m. on NFL Sundays. Every check carries a 4% surcharge, which is not a tip. The Duck Dive (4650 Mission Blvd., Pacific Beach) is a beach lounge about 120 steps from the ocean, known for duck fat fries and brunch, with Monday Night Football viewing and Padres game promotions. San Diego Magazine called it a Nebraska Huskers bar in 2024, so expect some red on fall Saturdays.
Sandbar Sports Grill (718 Ventura Pl., Mission Beach) is known for award-winning fish tacos, more than 50 tequilas and an ocean-view skydeck across from Belmont Park. It opens at 9 a.m. Friday through Monday. Parking in Mission Beach on a sunny weekend is the drawback. Shakespeare Pub & Grille (3701 India St., Middletown) has been open since 1990 and is best known for live soccer broadcasts and fish and chips that There San Diego's guide describes as voted San Diego's best 12 years running. For soccer specifics, see Soccer pubs in San Diego.
Home & Away (2222 San Diego Ave., Old Town) pairs barbecue and craft beer with a massive outdoor screen, covered patios, cornhole and ping pong, and it welcomes dogs. It shows NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and UFC and is a Kansas City Chiefs bar on Sundays. Posted hours start at 11:30 a.m., so check Sunday hours before an early game. In North County, Park 101 (3040 Carlsbad Blvd., Carlsbad Village) has 20-plus TVs, an outdoor LED wall and a rooftop deck one block from the beach. It serves burgers, tacos and smoked tri-tip, is the Buffalo Bills bar in Carlsbad, and hosts Padres and UFC watch parties. It closes at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Family-friendly options and fight nights
- Families: Novo Brazil (patio playground), Park 101 (kids menu, dogs welcome), Sandbar (family friendly until 10 p.m.), Dirty Birds (family dinners on its own list) and Wonderland (kids menu).
- 21 and over: McGregor's, and the cigar lounge at 3N1.
- UFC and boxing: Tom's Watch Bar, Park 101 and Home & Away list UFC events; 3N1 hosts boxing and UFC pay-per-view. Call ahead about cover charges and seating on big fight nights.
- Dogs: Harbor Town, Dirty Birds Liberty Station, The Hills Pub, Home & Away and Park 101 have dog-friendly patios.
