The short version
- Three Trolley lines serve the ballpark: the Sycuan Green Line at Gaslamp Quarter station, and the Orange and UC San Diego Blue lines at 12th & Imperial and Park & Market.
- MTS puts 12th & Imperial and Gaslamp Quarter one block from Petco Park, and Park & Market at 0.2 miles.
- One-way adult fare is $3.00 from October 1, 2026, or $1.50 at the Senior/Disabled/Medicare rate.
- Riders 18 and under travel free on MTS through June 2027, and two kids 12 and under ride free with a paying adult at weekends.
- There is no free transit ride bundled with a Padres ticket — that is a persistent myth.
Petco Park sits in the East Village, which is the single most transit-connected corner of San Diego. Three of the region's four Trolley lines stop within a couple of blocks of the gates, which makes the ballpark one of the few destinations in this city where driving is the awkward option rather than the default one.
Three lines, three stations, all walkable
The Green Line runs every 15 minutes or better before game time, and MTS adds post-game service as needed.

The myth worth killing
Coming from North County
The COASTER runs from Oceanside down the coast to Santa Fe Depot, with free parking at seven stations along the line — which makes it a genuinely good option from Encinitas, Carlsbad or Solana Beach on a weeknight. From Santa Fe Depot the Padres describe the walk to the ballpark as a 25-minute stroll, or about 12 minutes on the southbound Green Line. Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner runs into the same station.
NCTD has in the past added extra northbound departures after Padres games, so a late finish does not automatically strand you — but confirm the last train for your specific date rather than assuming, because the extra services are scheduled game by game.
If you do drive
The Padres run six official lots and require a pre-paid pass for the Preferred ones, but publish no prices for any of them. Their own transportation page says parking is extremely limited and encourages transit or rideshare instead — which is an unusually blunt thing for a ballpark to tell you, and worth taking at face value. See our separate tip on parking at Petco Park.
