Can I take the trolley to Snapdragon Stadium?

Yes — the Green Line's Stadium Station is right at the stadium, and MTS runs every 15 minutes or better around events. You still pay the normal $3.00 fare; no ticket includes the ride.

The short version

  • The Green Line serves Stadium Station, which MTS describes as being at the doorstep of Snapdragon Stadium.
  • Service runs every 15 minutes or better before and after most events, with extra trains added for larger ones.
  • No event ticket includes a free trolley ride — we checked MTS, the stadium and all three main tenants.
  • MTS does sell discounted season trolley passes for San Diego FC and San Diego Wave home matches, at about a third off.
  • Parking at Snapdragon requires a pre-purchased pass; turn up without one and you will be turned away.

Yes, and it is the single best reason to go to an event there without a car. Snapdragon Stadium was built on a site that already had a trolley station, and the Green Line's Stadium Station sits close enough that MTS describes it as "the doorstep" of the stadium.

The discounts that do exist

  • Season trolley passes for soccer. MTS has sold a San Diego FC pass covering all 17 home matches, and a San Diego Wave equivalent, at around a third off the regular fare. These are real, and they are probably what the free-ride rumour is a garbled version of.
  • Riders 18 and under travel free on MTS through June 2027 under the Youth Opportunity Pass, with a registered reduced-fare PRONTO account.
  • Family Weekends: two children 12 and under ride free with a paying adult on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you drive instead

Snapdragon parking is pre-purchase only, and the stadium is blunt about it: all guests must have a parking pass, and without one you will be turned away at the entrance. The lots — Orange, Yellow, Green, Purple, Thrive and an RV zone — are cashless. Prices are not published in advance because they vary by event; passes are sold through the stadium and Ticketmaster.

Lots open five hours before kickoff for Aztecs football and four hours before Wave matches. Given that a trolley drops you at the gate for $3.00, the parking pass is worth it only if you are coming from somewhere the Green Line does not reach.

How long is the walk, really?

Nobody official publishes a distance or time, and MTS, the stadium and the tenants all stick to vague language like "a short walk" or "the doorstep." We walked it ourselves: down the stairs or lift from the platform, across to Innovation Parkway, then a short way north to the gate. It's roughly a couple of hundred feet, and at a slow pace it took about 10 minutes — moving normally, figure closer to 5. That's our own timed observation, not a published figure, so treat it as a rough guide rather than a stat.

Coming from other lines

  • Orange Line: ride to Grossmont Station, then transfer to the Green Line.
  • Copper Line: ride to El Cajon Transit Center, then transfer to the Green Line.
  • Rapid 215: ride to SDSU, then transfer to the Green Line to Stadium Station.
