Where can you eat late at night or 24 hours in San Diego?

For true 24-hour food, go to Rudford's diner in North Park or any of the three Cotixan taco shops (Clairemont, Mira Mesa, Encinitas). After the Gaslamp bars, Tacos El Gordo on F Street serves until 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and Convoy's Min Sok Chon runs until 2-3 a.m.

The short version

  • Rudford's at 2900 El Cajon Blvd says it has been open 24/7, 365 days a year, since 1949
  • Cotixan lists all three San Diego-area taco shops as open 24 hours: Clairemont, Mira Mesa and Encinitas
  • Tacos El Gordo downtown (511 F St) is open to 2 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday-Saturday
  • Since July 17, 2026, Uber and Lyft can't pick up on 5th Ave between Market and E St from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights
  • The city set up 14 painted rideshare pickup spots on nearby blocks such as the 600 block of F St and the 400 block of E St

San Diego is not a big 24-hour city, and plenty of places listed as 'open late' online close at 10 or 11 p.m. Below are the places whose hours we could confirm this fall from their own sites or recently updated listings. We left out places with conflicting hours: Brian's 24 in the Gaslamp says on its website that it serves 24 hours, but a listing updated in May 2026 shows daytime hours, so call before you walk over.

Truly 24 hours

Rudford's Restaurant (North Park, 2900 El Cajon Blvd) is the classic: its site says it is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and has been on the boulevard since 1949. It asks overnight diners to pay by card. For tacos, Cotixan lists all three of its San Diego-area shops as open 24 hours: Clairemont (4370 Genesee Ave), Mira Mesa (8214 Mira Mesa Blvd) and Encinitas (219 N El Camino Real). If you're new to the burrito scene, start with our California burrito explainer and why so many taco shops end in -berto's.

Cotixan's three shops never close; for a sit-down booth at 3 a.m., Rudford's on El Cajon Blvd is the 24-hour diner.

Gaslamp and downtown after the bars

Tacos El Gordo (511 F St) is the after-bar standby: its site lists 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday, with validated parking at the Horton Plaza garage. The Melt (635 Fifth Ave, between Market and G) lists burgers and grilled cheese until 3 a.m. daily on its locations page. Both are a short walk from the rideshare pickup spots below.

Convoy: Korean food until 1-3 a.m.

Min Sok Chon (4620 Convoy St) is the late Korean pick named by San Diego Magazine; a listing updated in May 2026 shows it open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., and to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Dalbam Moon Night (4425 Convoy St), also on the magazine's list, is a pocha-style spot open until 1 a.m. Tuesday-Saturday and midnight Sunday, closed Monday, per the same May 2026 listing. Call ahead on weeknights: we could not read hours on either restaurant's own site.

South Bay and Coronado

Tacos El Gordo's Chula Vista shop (556 Broadway) keeps the same 2 a.m./4 a.m. hours as downtown; its Palm Ave shop (3265 Palm Ave, 92154) closes at 1 a.m., 2 a.m. on weekends. In Coronado, Crack Taco Shop (1009 Orange Ave) serves until 2 a.m., per a December 2025 Coronado Times column. If you're crossing on the ferry, check the last boat first in our Coronado ferry schedule.
