SAN DIEGO TIPS

Where are the best happy hours in San Diego (with real times and prices)?

5 min read Checked November 3, 2026 Report a correction

For posted deals we could verify, start with Rustic Root's Gaslamp rooftop ($6 well spirits, Mon–Fri 5–6:30pm), JRDN in Pacific Beach ($1 oysters 3–4pm weekdays), Wonderland Ocean Pub in Ocean Beach ($5 drafts, Mon–Fri 3–5pm) and George's at the Cove in La Jolla ($18 snack-and-drink pairings, daily 2–5pm). Most San Diego happy hours run weekdays only and end by 5:30–6pm, which in November lines up with a sunset just before 5pm.

The short version

  • George's at the Cove serves its $18 'Little Luxuries' pairings every day 2–5pm on the Ocean Terrace and Level2 bar (menu checked Nov 3, 2026).
  • JRDN at Tower23 in Pacific Beach has $1 oysters from 3–4pm on weekdays, six-oyster minimum, and no happy hour on holidays.
  • Mister A's aperitif deals (Sun–Thu 4–6:30pm) drop to Mon–Thu Dec 1–16 and pause until January 4, 2027.
  • Sunset in San Diego is 4:56pm on Nov 3 and 4:42pm on Dec 7, 2026 (U.S. Naval Observatory), so a weekday happy hour on the bay can include sunset.
  • Several waterfront spots add a 4–5% surcharge to every check: George's (5%), Mister A's (4%), Coasterra (5%), Tom Ham's (5%).

We only listed places whose happy hour we could read on the venue's own website or menu, its own OpenTable listing, or a 2026 write-up, all checked on November 3, 2026. For the picks themselves we leaned on The Infatuation's 'Best Happy Hours in San Diego' (September 24, 2026) and San Diego Magazine's happy-hour list (last updated March 2025), then checked each venue. Several popular names (Kettner Exchange, The Nolen, Roppongi, Seven Grand) are missing only because we couldn't read a current menu from them. Prices change often, so treat this as a snapshot.

Where can you get a happy hour with an ocean or bay view?

For ocean views, George's at the Cove runs its Little Luxuries menu every day 2–5pm on the Ocean Terrace and Level2 bar. JRDN sits on the Pacific Beach boardwalk, and Wonderland Ocean Pub looks over the Ocean Beach pier area. For the bay and skyline, Harbor Island has C Level (3:30–5:30pm) and Tom Ham's (3–6pm), and Peohe's at the Coronado Ferry Landing runs until 5:30pm. Mister A's looks over downtown and the airport from the 12th floor. In November and December the sun sets before 5pm, so these weekday windows cover sunset. For the best angles see best sunset spots and sunset times this winter.

Weekday happy hours at the beach and bay end around 5–5:30pm. In November that's just after sunset.

What makes a happy hour bill higher than the menu price?

  • Weekdays only is the norm. JRDN, Wonderland, C Level, Peohe's, Tom Ham's, Ironside and Cowboy Star list Monday–Friday only.
  • Bar seats only at some. Cowboy Star's deals are for the bar and lounge, and Mister A's aperitif menu is first come, first served.
  • Holidays change things. JRDN skips holidays, and Mister A's aperitif menu runs Mon–Thu only Dec 1–16 and pauses until January 4, 2027.
  • Don't expect free drinks. California law (Business and Professions Code §25600) generally bars alcohol licensees from giving away free goods or premiums, so deals here are discounts.
  • Going for oysters? JRDN's $1 oysters stop at 4pm, an hour before the rest of its happy hour ends.
