This is for anyone booking a downtown San Diego stay in 2026: a Padres weekend, a convention, or a first trip where you want to walk to dinner. We picked 14 hotels across five pockets of downtown and every price tier, then checked each one's own website for its current name, address and parking rate, because downtown hotels rebrand often. Tiers: $ usually under $200 a night, $$ $200-350, $$$ $350-600, $$$$ $600+. They are based on Kayak, Tripadvisor and other booking-site averages, vary a lot by date, and are a guide, not a quote.

Tiers from Kayak, Tripadvisor, Momondo, Hotels.com and Travelocity rate data, checked October 3, 2026. Rates swing widely by date.

Gaslamp Quarter: in the middle of the night out

1. Pendry San Diego, 550 J St, at Fifth Avenue. Opened in 2017 with 317 rooms, Pendry is the polished choice in the Gaslamp, with a pool deck (the hotel lists it on the 3rd floor, open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and the Oxford Social Club, a nightclub in the basement. Dogs are welcome for $100 a stay. Tier: $$$-$$$$. Kayak's averages run about $459 on weeknights and $664 on weekend nights. Parking: valet is $70 a night including tax, and there's a nightly amenity fee on top. Drawback: weekend rates jump hard, and you're on Fifth Avenue, the Gaslamp's main nightlife street.

2. Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, 435 Sixth Ave. This is the former Hotel Solamar, which reopened as a Margaritaville on August 24, 2023 after a $31 million renovation. It has 235 rooms and a 7,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck with the 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar and live music. Tier: $$$ (Trip.com shows rates from about $358). Drawback: guest reviews mention thin walls and loud guests until about 2 a.m. It's a party hotel, so book elsewhere if you want early nights.

3. HI San Diego Downtown, 521 Market St. A Hostelling International hostel in the Gaslamp with shared dorms and private rooms. Kayak lists free Wi-Fi and a basic breakfast. Tier: $. Kayak's monthly averages run from about $43 in January to about $140 in July. Drawback: there's no parking. Guests report parking on the street, sometimes several blocks away, so come without a car.

East Village: closest to Petco Park

4. Omni San Diego Hotel, 675 L St. The Padres pick. A private skybridge connects the hotel straight to Petco Park. It has 511 rooms over 21 floors and an 8,000-square-foot 6th-floor pool deck with a hot tub. Tier: $$-$$$. Parking: valet only, $70 a night with in-and-out privileges, or $10 an hour. Public garages within a block are the alternative. Drawback: there's no self-parking on site, so budget for valet or a nearby garage.

5. Hotel Indigo San Diego-Gaslamp Quarter, 509 9th Ave. A 210-room boutique hotel one block from Petco Park and a few minutes' walk from the Convention Center. The rooftop bar, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails, has skyline views. Tier: $$-$$$. Parking: valet, $70 a night with in-and-out. Drawback: there's no pool, and the Gaslamp's main blocks are a 5 to 10 minute walk.

Marina and waterfront: the convention hotels

6. Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, 1 Market Place. Two towers and 1,628 rooms on the bay, next to Seaport Village. The hotel has been renovating since early 2025: rooms in the Seaport Tower were redone first, with the Harbor Tower targeted for summer 2026. The 40th-floor Top of the Hyatt lounge reopened in May 2026. Tier: $$$. Kayak's monthly averages range from about $258 in December to about $475 in June. Fees: the destination fee was $54.49 a night as of January 2026, and parking was $45 self-park or $65 valet. Drawback: it's huge and feels corporate, and pools or room blocks may still be affected by the renovation, so ask when you book.

7. Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, 333 W Harbor Dr. 1,366 rooms beside the Convention Center, plus its own marina and two free-form pools that Marriott calls the largest in downtown. Tier: $$$. Parking: self-park is $11 for the first hour, then $7 an hour, up to $50 a day. Valet is $70. Travelocity lists a $47 nightly destination fee. The hotel is cashless. Drawback: the add-on fees pile up fast. 8. Hilton San Diego Bayfront, 1 Park Blvd. 1,190 rooms on the bay at the south end of the Convention Center, next to The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, with a pedestrian bridge to the Gaslamp and Petco Park. Tier: $$$ (Tripadvisor shows about $243-$850). Parking: the hotel lists $50 self-park and $70 valet. The San Diego Tourism Authority listing shows a nightly destination fee of about $48.51. Drawback: reviewers mention noise during conventions and ballgames, and a small pool for a hotel this size.

Columbia and the downtown core: grand hotels and quieter blocks

9. The US Grant, 326 Broadway. It opened on October 15, 1910, and is now part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. Its Grant Grill dates to 1951. Tier: $$$ (Tripadvisor: about $290-$758). Parking: $70 a day, valet only, off-site. Drawback: reviewers mention noise from the nearby train tracks, and Tripadvisor notes renovations to the first floor and rooms planned through the end of 2026. 10. The Westgate Hotel, 1055 Second Ave. A 222-room hotel that serves afternoon tea, with a heated rooftop pool, hot tub and fire pits. Tier: $-$$. Momondo says it's typically about $187 a night, well below the average for a four-star hotel in San Diego. Parking: valet is $55 a night for guests. Fees: the amenity fee was $34.78 a night as of April 2026. Drawback: no pets, and the Gaslamp's busy blocks are a walk away.

11. The Guild Hotel, 500 W Broadway. This building opened in 1924 as an Armed Services YMCA and became a hotel in 2019. It's now part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio. Tier: $$ (Momondo: typically about $223). Parking: valet is $68 a night, or you can self-park at the third-party Columbia Street garage at 1050 Columbia St. Drawback: reviewers mention small rooms, noise on lower floors and nearby construction. The hotel lists a pool as coming soon. 12. InterContinental San Diego, 901 Bayfront Ct. 400 rooms over 19 floors on the waterfront, near the Santa Fe Depot train station. Tier: $$$. Hotwire showed $455 with taxes for an October 2026 night. Fees: self-park is $57 a day and valet $69, and Hotwire lists a $58 nightly resort fee. Drawback: the fees, and there's no airport shuttle even though the airport is close.

Little Italy: the best food walk from your door

13. Carté Hotel San Diego Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton, 401 W Ash St. 246 rooms, a 16th-floor rooftop bar (Above Ash), a pool and hot tub, and a gym of about 28,000 square feet. It's about 1.7 miles from the airport. The mandatory daily fee includes a $15 food and drink credit and beach chair and boogie board rentals. Tier: $$-$$$ (Tripadvisor: about $223-$579). Parking: valet only, $70. Drawback: reviewers mention thin walls.

14. La Pensione Hotel, 606 W Date St. A small, simple hotel in the middle of Little Italy, near the Saturday farmers market. Tier: $. Kayak's averages are about $155 on weeknights and $192 on weekends. Drawback: small rooms, housekeeping only on request, Wi-Fi complaints in 2025-2026 reviews, and street noise in corner rooms. There's no hotel parking lot.
