The short version

  • ZIPs: Naval Base San Diego 92136, Naval Base Coronado/North Island 92135, Naval Amphibious Base units 92155, Naval Base Point Loma 92106
  • Unescorted visitors need a sponsor: active duty, Guard or Reserve, a CAC holder or an adult family member
  • Since June 2025, Navy bases require a REAL ID, a U.S. passport or a DoD ID for visitors
  • Naval Base San Diego's Visitor Control Center: 3101 Harbor Dr., Mon–Fri 6:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., (619) 556-5336
  • At Naval Base Coronado, the sponsor must start the request; the visitor center won't take it from you

A ZIP code gets mail to a Navy base; it won't get you through the gate. For that you need a sponsor and a visitor pass from the base's Visitor Control Center (VCC). We checked Navy Region Southwest and each installation's access page on November 5, 2026.

How do I get a visitor pass for a San Diego Navy base?

Getting on base as a visitor

  1. 01

    Find a sponsor

Eligible sponsors include active duty, Guard and Reserve personnel on orders, CAC holders (including contractors) and family members 18 and older. Privatized-housing residents can sponsor visitors to their own housing area only.

  2. 02

Fill out SECNAV Form 5512/1 with them

Save the form to your computer before typing in your personal information. At Naval Base Coronado the sponsor must submit it in person or by email; the VCC won't accept requests from visitors, and replies take up to 24 business hours.

  3. 03

    Bring the right ID

A REAL ID driver's license or state ID, a U.S. passport, or a DoD ID. Without one you may be turned away or need an escort.

  4. 04

    Go to the VCC first

Service is first come, first served, weekdays only, and closed on federal holidays.
