Yes. The grounds, shops, restaurants and the beach in front are open to day visitors, and the beach itself is public. The cost is parking: $39 for the first two hours in the hotel's garage.

The short version

  • The Hotel del Coronado served its first meal on February 19, 1888, and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1977.
  • A restoration of more than $550 million by owner Blackstone finished with the Victorian building in June 2025.
  • Day visitors can walk the grounds, shop, eat at restaurants including Nobu and Veranda, and use the public beach out front.
  • Self-parking for day visitors is $39 for the first 2 hours, $17 an hour after, $100 maximum; dining or shopping $100+ takes $15 off.
  • Guided history tours leave from the Ice House Museum and need booking ahead.

You do not need a room key to see The Del. The hotel actively welcomes day visitors to its shops and restaurants, and the sand in front of it is part of Coronado Central Beach, which is public like every California beach below the high-tide line.

What you can do without a reservation

  • Walk the main Victorian building's lobby and porch, recently restored.
  • Browse The Shops at The Del.
  • Eat at the resort's restaurants, including Nobu Del Coronado, Veranda and Serẽa — reservations are wise on weekends.
  • Spend the day on the beach directly in front of the hotel.
  • Take a guided history tour from the Ice House Museum, booked in advance.

What the restoration changed

Blackstone's restoration ran for several years and finished in June 2025 with the original Victorian building: the front porch, lobby, main entry and garden courtyard. Along the way it added Nobu and Veranda, the Shore House residences, a new ballroom and renovated beach cottages. If you last visited before 2023, expect the place to look noticeably sharper and noticeably pricier.
