Where to park for Coronado Beach

5 min read Checked October 3, 2026

On Ocean Boulevard or the residential streets behind it — both free. Orange Avenue is metered with time limits, the Hotel del garage starts at $39, and Silver Strand State Beach charges $12–20 a car.

The short version

  • Ocean Boulevard, which runs right along Coronado Central Beach, has free street parking on both sides — and fills first on summer weekends.
  • The residential grid east of Orange Avenue is free and unmetered, usually within a few blocks of the sand.
  • Orange Avenue's meters are paid through PayByPhone, with 2-hour limits on some blocks during business hours.
  • Day self-parking at the Hotel del Coronado is $39 for the first 2 hours, then $17 an hour, capped at $100.
  • Silver Strand State Beach uses demand-based day-use pricing of $12 to $20 per vehicle, gates open at 7 a.m.

Coronado is one of the few beach towns in San Diego where free parking within a short walk of the sand is the norm rather than a lucky find. The catch is that everyone else knows it too, so on a summer Saturday the close spots are gone by late morning.

Ocean Boulevard first

Ocean Boulevard runs the length of Coronado Central Beach, the wide flat stretch in front of the Hotel del Coronado, and has free parking on both sides of the street. If you arrive before about 10 a.m. on a weekend you will usually find something. After that, circle once and then drop a block inland.

The residential grid is the real answer

The streets behind Ocean Boulevard and east of Orange Avenue are free and unmetered. Local guides consistently point visitors there when Ocean Boulevard is full, and the walk to the beach is rarely more than five minutes. Read the signs on the block: street-sweeping days and the occasional permit zone still apply.

If the island is jammed, Silver Strand State Beach a few miles south is the reliable fallback: a big paid lot, restrooms, and a beach that is almost never as crowded as Central Beach. Its day-use fee moves between $12 and $20 depending on demand, so summer weekends sit at the top of that range.
