Is the Balboa Park Explorer Pass worth it?

The short version
- The Explorer Limited Pass is $66 for adults (12+) and $43 for kids 3–11: one day, up to 4 of 16 museums.
- The Parkwide Pass is $78 adult and $52 youth for one entry to all 16 museums over 7 consecutive days.
- At-the-door adult prices: Air & Space $35, Fleet Science Center $29.95, SDMA $25, theNAT $24.95, Museum of Us $21.95.
- Three of the big museums cost $89.90 for an adult separately, so the $66 Limited Pass saves $23.90; two cost less than the pass.
- No pass covers the San Diego Zoo, the Comic-Con Museum or parking, which has been paid in the Cultural District since Jan. 5, 2026.
The Balboa Park Explorer Pass bundles general admission to 16 museums in the park. Whether it saves you money comes down to one number: how many paid museums you'll actually get through. Each takes a couple of hours, so most people manage three in a day, not four.

For kids the math tips sooner. A child 3–11 pays $22 at Air & Space, $24.95 at the Fleet and $16.95 at theNAT: $63.90 for three, versus $43 for the youth Limited Pass (our math). But the Museum of Art is already free for anyone 17 and under, so don't count it toward a child's pass.
- Unused Limited and Parkwide passes expire one year after you order them.
- The Parkwide Pass doesn't allow re-entry to the same museum on another day.
- Annual passes are named and non-transferable; adults and students show photo ID.
- All sales are final; a lost pass can be reprinted for $5.
- The Museum of Art is closed Wednesdays, so plan a four-museum day around that.
