Kids Free San Diego 2026: what's actually free this October, and the catch
All of October 2026, kids get in free with a paid adult at 70-plus museums and big attractions. The Zoo and Safari Park admit up to six kids 11 and under per adult. The catch: rules vary by place, and CityPASS-style passes don't count.

The short version
- Kids Free San Diego runs October 1-31, 2026: an adult pays full price and the child's admission, meal or room perk comes free.
- The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park admit up to six kids 11 and under free with each paying adult, no coupon needed.
- More than 70 museums take part, mostly for kids 12 and under; you unlock the coupons by signing up once with the San Diego Museum Council.
- SeaWorld and Sesame Place give one free child ages 3 to 9 per full-price adult; LEGOLAND gives one child 2 to 12 per full-price one-day adult.
- CityPASS, Go City and the Balboa Park Explorer Pass don't count as the paid adult admission.
October is the month San Diego quietly becomes cheap for families. Kids Free San Diego, run by the San Diego Tourism Authority, makes the kid's ticket free when an adult buys theirs, at the zoo, the theme parks and dozens of museums. It's a genuinely good deal, with one catch: every place writes its own fine print. Here's what each big one actually offers, checked October 6, 2026.

Sign up once on the San Diego Museum Council's Kids Free page with your email and ZIP code and every participating museum's coupon unlocks. The council lists more than 70 museums across the county, plus eight in Tijuana. Most admit kids 12 and under, but the numbers vary: the Fleet Science Center takes one child per adult, while the Natural History Museum, Air & Space Museum and USS Midway take two, according to La Jolla Mom's 2026 roundup. Birch Aquarium needs an advance online reservation with the code, and some museums limit the offer to once a month per guest.

- Boats: Flagship harbor cruises take up to two kids 12 and under free per full-fare adult; San Diego Whale Watch takes one, through November 15, 2026.
- Petco Park tours: one kid 12 and under free with each paid adult.
- Bikes: Wheel Fun Rentals lets up to two kids 12 and under ride free per paying adult.
- Hotels: several add kid perks, from a free kids' breakfast to a free paddleboard rental; check the Kids Free list for terms.
